when we set off to find ourselves
we find ourselves in someone else
left on repeat I felt defeat so subtly
in holding you closer, you faded away
through misguided lessons we spent half a year in decay
life rearranged, not much has changed
I’m still the same
and away isn’t the only way to fade
still the same in a different shade of gray
time breaks down fear
it hasn’t been weighing me down
for a while
stoned, cold, in denial
and I can see through
I can see the other side now
I finally figured it out
there’s comfort in letting go
I spend my time all alone now
sometimes get lonely but i
will bail on our plans tonight
I’ll say I lost track of time
when it gets too hard to swallow the truth
my dogs always there in our room
digging a hole now
it’s easy to see
when I set these boundaries
I meant them for me
and I’ll try to forget
the time it spent drilled in my head
even if you miss me, you can’t live in my memories.
but the stories read aloud to themselves
and in the candlelight my acquiescence melts
